Being Comfortable With Not Knowing

When you have a lot of time to think, you may realize that, as humans, there is much we do not know.

On the small scale this can include things like what your next job will look like, when your next relationship will come, or how long your savings will last. On the large scale it can include things like how we got here, what your life’s purpose is, and how long you will be here on this Earth.

Throughout all of life’s uncertainties, the one thing you can know with absolute certainty is that you are conscious. Within that awareness arises a different kind of knowing—a knowing that is non-conceptual, felt from deep within. As this knowing becomes more prevalent, it can help guide you through life’s uncertainties.

Embrace Life’s Imperfections

If you weren’t imperfect, you wouldn’t be human. Ultimately, the things that make us the most vulnerable are the things that make us the most compatible for things like love, compassion, and understanding.

That is the dual nature of being human. On one hand there is the “Human” that is subject to things like old age, disease, and death, and then on the other hand there is the “Being” which is the awareness that underlies and transcends it all.

When you embrace life’s challenges and imperfections, it brings you deeper into that state of Being. With this comes a deeper understanding of yourself and others.

Focus On What’s In Front Of You

When you find yourself getting too far ahead of where you’re at, it typically means that you are not focused enough on the tasks at hand. You are more focused on where your actions are going to take you rather than actually doing what you are doing.

As humans, we have a natural ability to interact with life’s phenomena without much thought involved. This is displayed time and time again when you do things such as sit down onto a chair, pick up a glass of water to take a sip, or open and close your front door.

However, for whatever reason, sometimes the mind insists on adding more thought than is necessary on top of what is already known. As if some extra label, explanation, or analysis is really going to make a difference, or change what already is.

When you get more focused on the present-moment interactions of your daily life, it draws energy away from a lot of this unnecessary chatter. With that comes more clarity, peace, and precision within your experiences.

Have More Fun

When you find yourself becoming overly concerned with things that lie outside the scope of what is currently relevant to where you’re at, it may mean that you need to lighten your loafers and find more enjoyment.

Think of a child out playing with his favorite toy, or running around on the playground with friends. Care-free, enthusiastic, and full of joy. Even when you watch animals, both wild and domesticated, you will observe a similar playfulness.

As you grow older into the world of adulthood, it is natural to lose some of that spark. The responsibilities of paying bills, going to work, maintaining relationships, and upkeeping a home can do that to a person. All of a sudden it as if the person has lost touch with that inner child, and has now embodied a completely different physique. One that the world expects them to be, and one that lives up to the standards set onto them by other people, whether that be friends, family, acquittances, or co-workers.

Some people are fortunate enough to do what they enjoy doing for a living, but for many this isn’t the case. In those situations, that’s where it becomes important to stay balanced. Make time for doing the things you enjoy, and find others who have similar interests.
