My Favorite Ways To Wind Down In The Evening

As a young guy on the grind sometimes it can be hard to justify using the evening to relax when I could be hustling instead.

However, I learned a long time ago that I feel best when I allow myself to take some occasional down time.

Although weekends, early mornings, and evenings can be a great time to get work done, it also helps to balance in some self-care as well.

This article is going to share some of my personal favorite ways to wind down in the evening.

#1 Turn On A Himalayan Salt Lamp

I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere that a salt lamp can add to a room. It creates a nice, calming glow and a peaceful vibe.

Even if I’m still working on something, sometimes having the salt lamp on makes things feel more relaxed.

Whether I’m playing video games, watching a YouTube video, or using my laptop it is usually nice to have it on as well.

#2 Drink A Cup Of Herbal Tea

I first got into drinking herbal tea about 10 years ago as a natural way to wind down and get relaxed before bed.

There are a wide variety of teas out there from “Sleepy time” teas, to Ginger teas that support digestion, or even just mint flavored teas that taste good.

Over the years I have tried quite a few of them, and I have always found it to be a nice addition to the evening.

#3 Use A Neck Warmer

I first got into using a neck warmer back when I found it sitting in a closet at my Mother’s house as a teenager.

The neck warmer can be really nice for relaxing the neck and shoulder area. They can get really hot though. I personally like that, but it’s good to keep the temperature moderate in most cases.

#4 Read A Book And Light A Candle

Reading a book to candlelight can be a nice way to take a breather from technology.

Candles can create a really nice vibe for the room, plus they smell good.

There’s something really calming and natural about turning off all the lights and just having candles on in the room. It almost brings you back to what things must have been like long before electricity and technology became a thing.

#5 Watch A Movie And Eat A Bag Of Popcorn

I don’t watch movies super often, but when I do I always find it to be super relaxing.

Back when I was a kid, this was a regular part of the weekends I spent with my dad.

We would eat dinner, enjoy a small bowl of ice cream, and then head into the living room which served as a “home theater” and watch a movie.

Nowadays with streaming services, it’s so nice to be able to select something with ease. Back then we would have to go to the Movie Gallery up the street and pick something out, or borrow a DVD from a friend.

The popcorn can make for a nice addition as well. Kind of like a personal version of going out to the movie theater.

Slowing Down

Sometimes it can be good to take time to deliberately slow down and relax.

Over the past few months I have been going pretty hard, in many cases working until it’s time to go to bed, and then getting up to get back to it first thing in the morning.

There’s nothing wrong with this, recently I’ve just been reminded that it’s good to take some down time as well.
