Reflecting on 2 Years Since Moving into My New Home
This month will officially mark two years since moving into my new residence.
Back in early 2024, my mother let me know that she was planning to sell the house so she could relocate with my stepfather to be closer to his side of the family.
For the previous three and a half years I had been living in an efficiency unit on the property, which would be included in the sale of the home.
Deciding to Stay in FL
As much as the prospect of moving with them seemed intriguing, it would have been a big uproot to my current lifestyle.
After all, I would have been moving to a completely new state without having a job lined up.
Looking back, I can see that I was extremely fortunate to find this new place.
Not only was it just two miles from where I was working at the time, but it’s also in the next neighborhood over from where I had been staying previously, where my father still lives as well.
This meant that I was able to make a transition while still maintaining my job and the many connections I had built in this area over the years.
An Opportunity to Step Up
As soon as I moved into this new place, I felt excited about having a new workspace to be creative in.
I started getting an image of the moves I wanted to make, and how being in this new spot would give me the opportunity to step up altogether.
In many ways, that is exactly what I have done.
Not only was this website created just four months after moving in, but I have also finished four albums and released dozens of singles.
I’ve also allowed myself to become more visible, which was a big part of the transition I was looking to make.
None of my musical releases from 2021 through early 2024 were on camera. Everything was audio-only.
Lifestyle Changes
Since moving into this new house, my lifestyle has changed in many ways for the better.
Even though I was getting around mostly on an electric bike for much of that time, I still found a lot of ways to take care of myself.
Not only is this house an upgrade from my last unit in many ways, but my earnings were higher and my spending was lower. This made it easier for me to spend on things I wouldn’t have previously.
Most significantly though, I have become much more engaged with my community during the time I’ve lived here.
The last neighborhood I lived in was very quiet. That was nice, especially during COVID when human contact was less optimal, but since moving here I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to be more interactive.
I’m constantly saying hello to people, catching up with friends, and riding past familiar faces and a lot of that is just from transitioning into a new setup.
Still Moving Forward
Even after two years of living here, I’m happy to say that I’m still finding new ways to make this living arrangement work for me.
After buying a car back in late February, I now have the opportunity to continue adjusting my lifestyle and making new moves.
With gas prices being high, I’m grateful that I still have the electric bike and can use it for smaller trips around the neighborhood while also taking the car into town as well.
This situation has truly been good for me.
I feel fortunate to be in this position, and I’m ready to continue making the most of it.
