Why I Love Entrepreneurship
If you have followed some of the posts on this site, chances are that you’ve seen me share my love for entrepreneurship. I’ve always been like that. From the time that I was in elementary school, almost everything that I did I wanted to find a way to do professionally. Whether it was basketball, skateboarding, gaming, or music, entrepreneurship was always involved.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to not only enjoy my own entrepreneurial pursuits, but to enjoy the works of others as well. I find true inspiration from seeing other people get after it. Folks that have started from scratch, and built themselves into something great.
It Takes Discipline
When you read a book, listen to a song, watch a YouTube video, or view a website, those products did not create themselves. Behind those works of art takes a lot of focus, creativity, discipline, and commitment.
When it comes to professional athletes, professional musicians, or professional gamers, what you don’t see is the hours and hours of dedication it took to become the best at what they do. In most cases, no one was standing over them forcing them to get good at those things. They developed a genuine passion on their own, and continued to put the work in day after day. In many cases, these folks can go years without ever receiving significant compensation or recognition for what they do. The work gets done for the pure enjoyment of it. In the long run, this turns out to be highly rewarding.
My Grandfather used to always tell me that the happiest people in life tend to be the ones that get to do what they love for a living. Professional baseball players. Sports commentators. Folks that get to embody their truest selves, and get to share their gifts with others.
It Provides Independence
To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be the type of person that is willing to deviate from the norm. Someone that recognizes they are capable of more, and are willing to do what it takes to see that vision unfold. Not everyone is like that. Many people are much more content to pay attention to what others are doing and follow along. In doing so, they miss out on a lot of joy in life.
The term “be your on boss” gets thrown around a lot in work situations. Many people seem to want that, but not everyone is willing to make it happen. And not everyone is really fit to be their own boss. Afterall, many people tend to be their own greatest enemy.
To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to truly have what it takes to work independently. You have to know how to cut off distractions, manage your time, and stay focused. When you can master these things, you grant yourself a lot of independence financially, socially, and personally. You sequester yourself from a lot of the nonsense, drama, and micro-managing that tends to dominate many people’s lives. If you can get to that point, that is a true blessing.
It’s Fun
If you are an entrepreneurial person, chances are you like to have a good time. Chances are you might have even been the type of person that was up late playing video games, hanging out with friends, or going out to a party when you should have been doing homework in high school. Some of the most successful people even confess that they are actually very “lazy” in their natural form.
However, despite liking to have fun, there also is a level of ambition present that seems to override those behaviors. Folks that somehow have the ability to stay out late partying and then still show up prepared and focused for the day’s work the next day.
But even if you don’t party, and even if you were straight edged and clean as a whistle in high school, entrepreneurship in itself tends to be very fun. Creating content. Progressing at your craft. And of course networking and connecting with others. Many entrepreneurs tend to travel frequently as a part of their lifestyle as well. “Rockstar living” is what I call it. If you’re someone that is able to stay focused despite whatever is going on around you, it can be a fun way of life.
Thank You For Reading
At the end of the day, entrepreneurship is not for everyone, and I recognize that. However, regardless of whatever your path is in life, the elements of discipline, independence, creativity, and having fun can still be present. Even if you have the most regular 9-5 job in the world, there can still be ways to incorporate these things to make it exciting.
