Regaining Touch With Your Spiritual Essence

In the midst of fluctuating circumstances and situations, it can be easy to lose touch with your deeper essence. For many folks, they get so swallowed up by the world that this becomes their natural state. Life becomes a revolving carousel of dollars and cents, Facebook likes, follows and unfollows, and so on.

Life is a balance of doing and Being, and of form and formless. The goal is to align yourself with the spiritual so that it can be brought forth into the other aspects of your daily life. To stay connected with that inner essence, so that the things you do can be done with clarity, and can be an expression of joy and satisfaction.

Spending Time in Nature

When the pandemic hit in 2020, there wasn’t much to do indoors, so a lot of my time was spent outside. This went on for a good year or two, and it was actually very peaceful.

After dealing with the hecticness of living in the big city, taking a full course college schedule, and living in college housing, it felt so nice to be able to have some space from it all.

I took a lot of walks on the beach. I went bike riding through my neighborhood. I visited new preserves in the area. I even took a job working outdoors for a local golf course. All the while I made a conscious focus to be more present. Put attention onto my breathing, look around and observe my surroundings, and stay in-tune with my body.

Sometimes spending time in nature can be a good way to reconnect with yourself and get away from it all. Most people only go out in nature when they want to “do” something. Whether it’s going bird watching, playing football, or going for a jog. The reality is that in today’s world of social media, artificial intelligence, push notifications, and so on it is probably more important than ever to stay connected with it.

Finding The Right Balance

As much as it’s important to find time to be still, spend time in nature, and reconnect personally, it’s also essential to stay balanced. You wouldn’t want to spend your whole life walking around out in the woods by yourself. The whole point is to reconnect internally so that you are more clear mentally as you go through your day-to-day life.

When you do things with clarity and focus, almost anything you do can become a spiritual practice. Even things you wouldn’t normally consider “spiritual” such as washing your car or taking a drive. It’s not so much what you are doing as much as it is your ability to stay aligned and present with it.

Letting Go Of Expectations

As you start to grow older, in some cases it can be natural for your expectations to grow as well. Some of that can be comparing yourself to other people, other times it can come from pressure put onto you by others.

When you stay in touch with your deeper essence, it becomes easier to let go of those things and embrace what you’re already doing. You recognize that Life is a lot bigger and deeper than just job salaries, promotions, and raises. You find joy in the small, simple things in life.

This gives you the freedom to continue to pursue the things that matter to you without becoming overly attached to them. You can see the bigger picture. You can remain aware of where you’ve come from and why you do the things that you do. This makes things not only more satisfying, but more fruitful and rewarding in the long run as well.
