Remaining Optimistic in Hard Times
In times like these it can be very easy to become pessimistic. As stated in a previous article, most people hear words like “recession” and immediately think “bad”. The reality, however, is that in times like these, there is a lot to be gained. Especially for individuals on the come up who have little to lose.
Remaining Humble and Grounded
In today’s world of social media influencers and creators, it can become easy to lose grounding. Afterall, it’s so easy to look online and compare yourself to others. Social media can be a double edge sword for that reason. It’s a great platform to share content and put yourself out there, but it can easily become unhealthy and excessive.
The good thing about challenging times is that they have a way of bringing you back down to solid ground. With there being less incentive to pursue things for monetary reasons alone, the emphasis comes back to doing things for the sake of doing and not always trying to “get”.
Instead of always feeling entitled to “more” you might just find yourself taking a step back to appreciate what you already have. You might find yourself regaining touch with who you truly are, what you truly enjoy, and what truly brings you happiness.
The Opportunity For New Doors To Open
In recessive environments, lay offs and unemployment tend to be prevalent. Although this may sound like a bad thing, it’s not always a bad thing. Maybe a layoff is exactly what you needed.
As written before, if it wasn’t for the pandemic, there is a chance that this site would not exist, and that I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this article right now. When the world closed, it forced me to get creative and find new ways to not only fill my time, but grow as a human being. If it wasn’t for that, there is a chance that I may have stepped right into the corporate 9-5 world and never had the chance to pursue more.
The bad news is that you might lose your job, the good news is that you might gain a lot more in return. As one door closes, another one opens. New job opportunities may come around. New chances for entrepreneurial or personal growth may arise. Much needed change may be on the horizon.
Little to Lose, A Lot to Gain
If you are an extremely wealthy individual, a recession could mean lost money. Of course, most of the extremely wealthy are smart enough to know how to navigate and diversify. Therefore, their losses are typically set to a minimum for the most part.
On the flip side, if you don’t have all that much to lose, it just means you have all the more to gain. Declining home prices could mean this is your time to buy a house. Decreases in inflation could mean this is your time to start stretching your dollars and save more.
On a personal level, for people like me, times like these provide an exciting opportunity to lock in and get creative. This might just be the right time to start building your audience to new levels, taking your craft to new heights, and building your skills to a higher pedestal.
Some of my favorite artists right now are artists that I discovered during the pandemic. When everyone else was running around mad, concerned about this, that, and the third, they locked in and got to work. They dropped mixtapes, released music videos, remained active on social media, and expanded in new ways. As a result, they put themselves ahead of where they would have been otherwise. The same can be true for you. Regardless of what your hustle is, the potential for growth is always there.
