Tips For Dealing With a Tough Living Situation

When you’re young and first starting out on your path in life, living in tough or uncomfortable situations can be a part of the process. For some it includes living in a small studio apartment with a roommate. For others it may go as far as living out of a vehicle and traveling on the road.

Roommates, old and outdated appliances, faulty plumbing or electrical systems. These are all the sorts of things that can accompany trying to get by in a cost-efficient situation. The good thing is that by living below your means in this manner, it provides you with more capital to invest in yourself and your future.

Focus On The Blessings

Even if your living environment isn’t the most pristine, luxurious palace on Earth, chances are that there is a lot to be grateful for. For one, just having a roof above your head and a shelter to call your own is a huge blessing. Running water, refrigeration and cooking appliances, a comfortable bed to sleep in each night. These are all the sorts of things that are so easy to take for granted.

However, along with all these basic aspects, chances are that there are other more unique qualities that make your living quarters worth appreciating. Having a nice backyard, a private bathroom, living on a quiet block. Maybe there are even amenities in your area such as parks, public pools, and sports/recreation equipment.

If you happen to live with someone, whether they are a friend, family member, relationship partner, or acquaintance, maybe there are things to appreciate with them as well. Even if they play music too loud at the wrong times, leave dishes in the sink, or slam their bedroom door at times that are inappropriate, chances are that there have been some quality aspects to them being there, and these are the things to think about at times. Like the time they gave you a ride to work when you had a flat tire. Or the time they shared food and supplies with you while the power was out during a Hurricane.

Use It As Encouragement

The truth is that if you are a mover and a shaker, it is probably better that your living premises isn’t all that. Afterall, it’s probably better to have the encouragement and motivation to get out of the house during the day and get things done. If you have a roommate that doesn’t leave the house as often, this can add to that as well. Be grateful that you have the excuse to get up and get a move on it so that you don’t have to be stuck there dealing with them.

If your home isn’t the most up to date, well-established structure on the planet, use that as a motivating factor to keep things pushing. Where you’re at may be okay for the time being, but would you really want to be continuing to live this way 10 years from now? Probably not.

Enjoy It For What It Is

Like any situation in life, it’s always best to get the most bang for your buck and get the most out of your situation rather than sit around whining and complaining. Where you’re at may not be the prettiest sight on Earth, but it’s yours. Crank your music up in the evenings, and treat every night as a special occasion. Clean your room, bathroom, and kitchen floors with genuine care. Sit out in your backyard, watch the sunsets at night, and observe your outdoor scenery with appreciation.

Embrace this part of your life as part of the journey. Eventually you will be moved on to a better situation. When that time comes, you want to look back and feel grateful that you were able to enjoy this time period for what it was. You want to be able to say you utilized it to the fullest and enjoyed it rather than spending all your time dissing and hating on your own life’s situation.

Use your position as an opportunity to work on yourself. Treat your living space as a private sanctuary and oasis to facilitate your growth and evolution. This can be the case whether you are living in a mansion, shack, penthouse, or jail cell.
