The Joys of Ordinary Living
As I am writing this, we are about halfway through December, coming off what has been an extremely busy few weeks.
Thanksgiving
First it was Thanksgiving, which featured a nice afternoon at my Dad’s house looking at family photos, watching the rest of the family drink wine on the patio, eating a big dinner, and taking a short walk together as a family in the evening.
Moving Furniture
The next day my Aunt and I jumped into helping a family friend move furniture. It took us two days to get everything moved, which involved filling two trailers worth of stuff and making multiple trips from one location to the next. Since the man that we were helping lives on the same block as my Dad, we popped over to Dad’s house for dinner once we were done working, and I even came back over again the next day to take a bike ride with him and my Uncle before grilling some burgers that night for dinner.
Journey to Bethlehem
Next up was a big Christmas showing that was being hosted by the neighborhood Church. Since they are kind enough to give out trays of food to the community every Tuesday that I frequently partake in, I agreed to volunteer in the event as a thank you. The event involved two full days of set up, along with a rehearsal the first night, followed by the actual event the following night. It was about a two and a half hour drive-thru event with different stations set up and a choir that sang throughout the whole evening. We had a lot of cars come through, and it was honestly a lot of fun to be a apart of.
40 Mile Bike Ride
There was also a 40 mile bike ride that I took with my Dad, Aunt, and Uncle a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. We rode along the beach side from one city to the next, making a few stops along the way. It was a very beautiful ride. And before that I had helped a neighbor of my Dad’s clean out the home of a woman who had recently deceased. The whole house needed to be cleaned out and prepared for sale. Most of the items were given away, and then once everything was cleared out we got everything cleaned and tidy.
Airbnb
As you can see, it really has been a busy few weeks. So much so that I am actually writing this article from an Airbnb a few miles outside of town. After all the running around I needed some me-time to unwind. It’s the end of the year and it’s time to start slowing down and putting a gameplan together for what I want next year to look like. Staying here at this spot is a good place to help me do that.
Twitch
When I came home from Thanksgiving, I went through my normal nightly routine, part of which has recently included sitting down to watch Twitch. Twitch is a cool platform because it is one of the few social media sites that is almost entirely young people. Like 20s – 30s young. I enjoy popping on just to see what people are up to, and I actually pull inspiration from it to fuel my own personal endeavors.
However, sometimes I also find myself feeling bad for some of the people I see on there. Particularly the ones that are 21 years old filming themselves riding around in Rolls Royces, or living in luxury apartments at the top of the big city.
One guy had an entire Thanksgiving spread laid out, but there was no one there to eat it but him. He popped on for a short stream of him filling up his plate, sat down with the camera facing him to take a few bites, and that was it.
Healthy Balance
Personally, I have always been an advocate of hustling on the holidays. I can’t tell you how many Christmases, Halloweens, and New Years that I’ve spent working on music, recording videos, and so on. But, there does come a point where it becomes excessive. And sometimes knowing when to draw that line is a big part of maintaining a healthy balance.
As we move into 2026, part of my goal is to continue to have that balance. Although I enjoy hustling, creating content, and doing the things I do, I also recognize that it’s good to have time for relaxation that doesn’t involve just laying in bed or taking a nap. Spending time with other people, and doing the things that I enjoy.
Taking time to step away from the grind and appreciate what I already have and where I am right now.
Thank You For Reading
As always, I want to give a big thank you for taking the time to read this article. I hope you have enjoyed, and I look forward to seeing you on the next one.
