My 100th Blog Post
As you can see from the title, I am very proud to say that this will be my 100th blog post!
It has been said that when taking on a new endeavor, 100 reps is the minimum before you should ever think of stopping. Regardless of whether anyone is liking, engaging, buying, or following, getting to that first 100 is the most important thing.
In this article I would like to reflect on my journey through these first 100 posts, and also take a look at how I want things to look moving forward.
Getting Started
I published my first post for this site in September of 2024. As mentioned in my “Where I Got The Inspiration For This Site” article, I am a frequent reader of a blog called Financial Samurai that laid the blueprint for how to get into blogging myself.
Sam is a big advocate of having your own website, and in one of his posts he lists the hosting service he used to launch his own site. After seeing that the prices started at only $2.95 a month it was something that I thought might be worth looking into.
But, before this site was made, I also had a free website made through Canva for a short time. The site showcased my music, photography, professional background, etc. but it didn’t have a way for me to publish articles.
After having that up for a few months I decided to make the transition into having a full domain. As someone who has always enjoyed writing, I figured that blogging would be a good medium for me.
I designed the website’s layout myself and then got to writing, which I quickly found to be very enjoyable.
Social Media
One of the tricky things about social media in today’s world is that you will hear a lot of different viewpoints and recommendations. One guy will tell you that Instagram is the top of the line, go-to platform, the next guy will tell you that Instagram is peanuts. One guy will tell you that blogging can be incredibly lucrative, the next guy will tell you that blogging isn’t really a scalable option these days.
That’s where the “Law of 100” becomes important. So that you can give things a try and see for yourself.
On a personal level, I can see that blogging has a low chance of being a scalable avenue for me over the long term. The volume of search visitors is low, and nowadays with A.I. technology even top tier publishing sites are becoming obsolete.
I have personally seen that despite spending hours promoting posts on Instagram, Linkedin, Reddit, and X, people just aren’t as interested in reading full articles these days.
Personal Brand
As I move forward, blogging will continue to be a part of my personal brand, despite the things listed above. I enjoy it, and even if my work only gets out to a small number of people I still like it enough to keep doing it.
This is typically how things work even for the most successful entrepreneurs. Folks will continue to podcast, blog, post tweets, and so on even if those specific pieces aren’t what brings in their main revenue.
However, as I’m taking a step back, I find myself more attentive to what’s working vs. what is not working in my life. And that’s where moving forward I plan to adjust myself accordingly.
Music
On a personal level, I am realizing that my music is the most scalable and sharable form of content that I have to offer. However, I have also learned that just putting out my songs with an album cover isn’t doing much. I have to make myself more visible.
Over the course of this year, that will be my main focus. I am personally seeing that YouTube is the platform that works best for me, so that will be my main outlet, however I will continue to cross-promote on other platforms as well.
This site will continue to live on. I will still continue to post new articles. And the site itself isn’t going anywhere.
I do see the value in having your own website, and I do feel that it has some potential in the long run. But in its current form, I hold that blogging in itself does not have a high chance of being a successful option for me.
Final Thoughts
Thank you for taking the time to read this article. This will be an exciting time for me to make some adjustments and make some personal transitions in how I go about things.
If you have been reading this site, I hope that you will continue to follow along moving forward. Thank you again for taking the time to read, and much love.
