Reasons Why AI Might Be Slightly Overrated

Over the past few weeks I have been experimenting with using AI as both a fact checker and editor for my articles. Based on my experiences, I can see why people are so jazzed up about AI right now, and optimistic about its role within the workplace moving forward. It really is an incredible tool. However, I have also realized that there are certain instances where AI just can’t quite capture the same tone as a human on its own.

As a writer, my work has a unique flow that resonates with who I am as an individual. Although AI has been a useful tool in helping to adjust and reshape some of the topics I write about, there have also been instances where I feel that my version is actually better, even if the grammar isn’t quite as pristine. That’s because when readers come to my site, I want them to know that they are getting something from me, not just an AI chatbot.

The Entertainment Industry

Within the entertainment industry, you frequently come across content that you probably wouldn’t get specifically from AI. When I look at industries like hip hop, stand up comedy, and skateboarding, this is especially relevant.

What makes stand up comedy such a cool artform is that each comedian is able to share their point of view in a way that is personal to them. Even if that comes across as crude or hacky, it is a part of the artform.

And when it comes to sports, it’s unlikely that anyone would want to watch a robot play basketball or skateboard. Part of what makes these artforms so special and entertaining is that each player has their own unique skillset, vibe, and energy. It’s a big part of why humans enjoy watching other humans do what they do.

Humans Are Not Robots

Based on the feedback I’ve received after running some of my articles through AI, it is clear that I am not “robotic” when it comes to how I write. In fact, some of my comments have even been described as “harsh”. Other times it has stated that my choice of words could have been more polished, or that my sentences could have flowed smoother.

As not just a writer, but a human in general, these are good things to know. It’s part of what makes writing such a great practice. As I am writing I am getting more in touch with myself, and tools like AI are helping to show me areas where I can become more refined.

However, even with all that said, I still feel like I do pretty alright. In fact, I’d go as far as to say those small imperfections are what make it mine.

At the end of the day, I consider myself more of a rapper than a blogger. I blog because I enjoy it. But I blog from the perspective of a hip hop artist. For anyone that has listened to hip hop, they know that it is not the most grammatically precise or polished artform. But that’s what makes it what it is.

Evolving With Time

For the first couple of years that I wrote for this site, I prided myself on using absolutely 0% AI. I wanted readers to get me as raw, authentic, and clear as possible.

However, after receiving significant criticism toward some of my posts recently it has changed my approach. I’m now trying to be more cognizant of how I put my posts together. Even though that has always been the case, I am now much more detail-oriented when it comes to my processes.

This is a cool evolution for me, because even though it would be nice to have a designated editor to proof read my posts, that’s just not a part of my repertoire right now. That’s where AI is making for a useful tool.

Thank You For Reading

As always, I want to give a big thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read. I hope what you take from this post is that I’m doing my best to make my writing less offensive and easier to enjoy. I am thankful to anyone that reads and the last thing I want to do is put people off.
