My Experience With Smoking Marijuana

To start, I just want to say that this article is not intended to promote or condone drug use in any way. At the same time, it is not intended to discourage it either. In the words of Wiz Khalifa “Getting high is a part of life”. It’s something we all come across in one way or another, and everybody handles it differently. This article is purely meant to share my own personal experiences.

Starting to Smoke

I first started smoking pot at the age of 16. Being someone that has always been a big fan of hip hop culture, smoking Marijuana seemed like a natural progression in life. I was starting to hear about friends that were getting into it, and in all honesty I think there was part of me that just didn’t want to miss out.

What Led Me To Start

The prior year in school (sophomore year), things were going great on paper. I was doing well in school, working part time, collecting volunteer hours. I had gotten my driver’s license and was one of the only sophomore’s allowed to park on campus. But, underneath it all, I guess there was part of me that felt like I hadn’t really found myself, and I thought that maybe Marijuana could help with that.

I went to school with an incredibly bright and talented group of people. Many of them were athletes, excelled academically, maintained relationships, and carried themselves with a natural charisma that I didn’t feel I had at the time. I remember sitting at basketball conditioning that year, genuinely amazed by how quick, sharp, and athletic everyone seemed. The truth was that I was okay at a lot of things, but I wasn’t really great at anything. That’s where I realized that I had some work to do.

Rolling High

For a few years, life was a whole lot of fun. Smoking pot honestly brought a lot of us together. I can remember so many times being out at a party, or a get together and smoking with people that I had barely even known within the halls at school. Come to find out they were actually pretty cool.

At the same time, what had initially started as a once or twice a week sort of thing had grown into an almost every day part of my life. I was wasting money, wasting time, putting myself in sketchy situations, and associating myself with things that honestly weren’t doing anything good for me.

Ready to Move On

Eventually in mid 2016, I decided to quit smoking. My tolerance had gotten so high that I could smoke a whole joint and barely feel a thing. Friends were starting to get into harder drugs, and even though I did dabble into some of that stuff a little bit, ultimately, I just wasn’t really interested.

In hindsight, it is surprising that I had the discipline to make that decision. I guess once again, I was just ready to move on.

CBD : THC

Over the years I have used CBD at times, which has seemed to be a good option for me personally. And I have also mixed THC and CBD at times which works really well.

Would I recommend it?

If someone were to ask me if I would recommend Marijuana, I would say that it depends. Taking a couple hits of a 1:1 CBD to THC vapor pen to help relax before bed is a lot different than smoking joint after joint all day. If you’re Snoop Dogg, Joe Rogan, or Wiz Khalifa, then smoking pot all day is something that you can get away with. But if you’re 23, working part time at Home Depot, and living at home with your parents, then it’s probably better to save the money.
