Getting Back on the Blogging Grind

Over the past few months I haven’t been blogging as much, and earlier this year I even thought about walking away from the blog entirely.

Even though I enjoy writing these posts, the amount of time and energy I put into them just doesn’t always translate into the engagement/results that I would like to see.

However, more recently I’ve been making some changes to my schedule, and I just have too much time on my hands for it to be wasted and not used constructively.

Even if I’m only writing these posts for the sake of the craft, it’s still a worthwhile use of my time.

Two Years of This Site

A couple of weeks ago I got an email saying that my annual hosting fee for this site was coming up, with the official anniversary date being August 24th.

At the time of starting this site, the thing I was most excited about was to have my own platform where I maintain total ownership.

As someone who has always enjoyed writing, starting my own blog seemed like a no-brainer, and from the time that I published my first post I found it to be highly enjoyable.

For the first year or so I had a lot of fun writing these posts because I would write them freely. Since I didn’t have any recurring visitors it felt like a clear canvas for me to work with and try things out.

However, as I started to promote and publish more, I also received some criticism. As a result of that I started putting more into my editing process, but it also took some of the fun out of it.

Keeping This Site Going

When the email for my annual fee came in last year I almost considered not paying it and just putting the site on hold. However, when I called and spoke to Bluehost on the phone they informed me that doing so would erase my site altogether and I would have to start over from scratch.

Since I am paying the fee, I might as well just continue to write and get the most out of my money.

This is actually a good thing. Now I have some motivation to write new posts and keep publishing!

Changing My Schedule

After buying a new car back in late February I have been making a lot of adjustments to my schedule as I’m getting into a new groove.

It’s been really cool, but it’s also been an adjustment to my finances, as I’m now adding gas, insurance, and maintenance to my monthly budget.

After spending the previous 2 years on an electric bike I thoroughly took some time to enjoy driving and being back on the road. And I still am, but I’m also changing my schedule around so that my gas bill is a little lighter.

For the past month or so that’s meant coming home in the afternoon instead of driving out to town, and lately I’ve also been taking the electric bike out some and doing things more close to home.

Writing for this site is a good way to spend my afternoons/early mornings rather than taking a nap or just hanging out at home.

As I’m writing this post I’m actually out at the library close to my house and it’s a nice vibe. I’m looking forward to doing more of this!
