The TIMBALAND GLOBAL SEARCH Contest: Please Vote For Me!
As of writing this post it is the morning of August 18th and voting for round 1 of the TIMBALAND GLOBAL SEARCH contest will start this afternoon. I am so excited to get this thing going.
If by some chance you happened to stumble on this article and are not familiar with who I am as an artist, let me provide some detail.
My artist name is Ceeg and I am a hip hop writer/recording artist from South-Central Florida.
I started releasing music on Soundcloud at the age of 17 but didn’t start taking it more seriously until about 5 years ago.
During that time I have been consistently releasing projects, singles, Instagram verses, as well as other content to go alongside the music, such as this blog you are reading.
I first discovered Timbaland’s music discovery platform through a friend of mine when the show started during COVID.
I found Timbaland’s platform to resonate with me as an independent artist, and since first discovering the show I have continued to build and grow within my craft by doing things such as building my own home studio, getting my music up on DSPs, and collaborating with other artists.
When I saw Tim start promoting for this contest I recognized it as an incredible opportunity, and started to get to work with being a part of it.
Passing Up On The First Time Around
When Tim first announced he was doing a contest last year, I took a similar interest to it and even set up a profile to get started.
But, I ended up withdrawing from the contest just a short time later for various reasons. A big part of that was due to the voting format of the contest.
As someone with a fairly small audience, it seemed like trying to collect votes just was something that wasn’t going to work for me.
When I got a message a few days later from someone asking for my voting link, it made me take a step back and rethink my decision.
By that point it was too late to re-enter. I spent the rest of the year working on my craft under the radar, or Under The Surface as I titled my project for that stretch.
When I saw that there was going to be another contest, I was so stoked to have another go at it.
Missing out on that first contest is a big part of what makes me so excited for this time around, and I feel ready to make the most of it.
Going All In
Over the past day or two I have taken some time to think about my strategy and how I want to approach promoting myself.
This blog post is a part of that, but there is so much more.
I’m realizing that despite having a small audience, I do have the tools to take a real shot at this.
As an artist who has been doing music for some time, and just a few months away from turning 30, I realize that now is the time to capitalize on an opportunity like this.
I have been putting a lot of work in over the past year to build my catalog and put together a portfolio of content that showcases who I am as an artist. And that’s what makes me feel that much better about participating in the contest this time around.
Instagram posts, DMs, in-person connections. These things will all be a part of my strategy. It’s going to be really cool to see what I can do.
