Be Grateful Not Greedy
As mentioned in one of my recent posts, some of my least happy times in my 20s were times when I felt like I “should” have more.
As I have gotten older I have gotten much better about this, although it’s an area that is still relevant as I am getting close to turning 30, and “more” seems something worth striving for.
However, I am happy to say that at this point it is less about needing anything and more about just continuing to live with purpose and from a place of enjoyment.
Continuing to evolve and pursue new opportunities with optimism while still remaining grounded and grateful for what I have.
Flexibility
As also mentioned in a recent post, with my schedule being what it is it only makes sense to make good use of my time.
If I can be learning, growing, building, and evolving, that is much more constructive than just sitting around complacent.
Getting ready to turn 30 actually serves as great motivation from this standpoint.
It helps remind me that although I can be grateful for what I have in the moment, it also makes sense to stay on track, because chances are I will want to see myself in a better place as I head into my 30s.
I definitely don’t want to just sit back and stay stagnant with where I’m at.
This makes for a cool lifestyle, because I can be working hard to progress while being grateful to have the opportunity to work on the things that I do in the first place.
It’s not like I’m working on anything that I’m not interested in or passionate about.
The things that I do are things that I genuinely enjoy, and that in itself is a true blessing.
Staying Humble
Back when I was younger I had a bad habit of getting way too ahead of myself.
When I was conditioning for the basketball team I pictured myself as a varsity starter rather than aiming for a spot on the bench as a JV player.
When I would meet a new girl I would think about hitting a homerun rather than just having a successful first date.
Even when I was finishing up college I thought about landing a high salary rather than just getting a foot in the door.
As a result I would sometimes be a little discombobulated when it came to actually going through the motions of the things I was doing.
On the basketball court I was dribbling the ball off my legs out of bounds, and on a first date I was missing cues and going in at the wrong moments, partially because my mind was unfocused and ahead of myself.
These are the sorts of things I strive to do better with as I am older.
To remain grounded, in the moment, and not having expectations that exceed the present circumstances.
Truly Grateful
The past few months have been an exercise of maintaining consistency in my life without feeling the need to switch things up just for the sake of novelty.
Being grateful for my day to day life, and finding ways to evolve and enjoy where I’m at without putting unnecessary pressure on myself.
I do a pretty good job of this.
I hit the gym and implement new exercises. I record over new types of instrumentals. I make small variations to my schedule.
I enjoy the people that I get to interact with throughout the day without feeling like I need to force anything.
If I get the chance to have a nice conversation with someone at the gym, or while I’m out ordering food at a restaurant, that is awesome. If I get the chance to swap numbers or introduce someone to my music, that is great. I can enjoy having the opportunity to share those moments without needing it to be anything more.
