My Favorite Albums of 2024
2024 was an overall decent year for music. Although we didn’t get anything particularly spectacular or groundbreaking, we did get some solid contributions from all of the usual suspects. In this article I want to take a look at some of the albums I personally most enjoyed.
Freddie Gibbs – You Only Die 1nce
Although this project is a bit more low-key than some of Freddie’s past releases, it’s still a very enjoyable listen. Honestly, just seeing any release from Freddie is always a treat. The performances are top notch, the beats are cool, and the album has a dope underground vibe to it.
Payroll Giovanni – Hustle Muzik
The sound of this album matches the title almost exactly. This music will make you want to hustle. Payroll comes through with some solid instrumental choices, sharp lyricism, and a good album length at 18 tracks.
Wiz Khalifa – Wiz Owens
This project has a unique feel to it from Wiz. While on past projects we’ve heard Wiz rapping about being “on top of the world” and enjoying all of the perks that come with fame, this album goes in a different direction. Wiz raps about making lifestyle changes, moving more cautiously, and stepping away from temptation. The production has a minimal sound to it, and the vocals are smooth and easy on the ears.
Larry June – Doing It For Me
Larry comes through with a noticeable improvement in his engineering on this one. This is easily his biggest release to date. The songs are full and polished, and the overall album plays through nicely.
Curren$y – The Tonite Show The Sequel
Out of all the albums listed here, this one is probably the most enjoyable to listen to. DJ Fresh did an incredible job with the production, and Curren$y glides over the instrumentals with ease. The features add a lot to the project, and the overall flow of the album is incredible.
ScHoolboy Q – BLUE LIPS
ScHoolboy comes through with a fully polished and legit sounding album. Having spent the past 5 years in the lab for this project, the craftmanship really shows. ScHoolboy comes through with great production, and does a great job of both turning things up and slowing things down. This album easily has the most official sound to it from the projects I heard this year.
Highlights of the Year
Hanging out and listening to these projects made for some of my greatest highlights of the year. Whether it was in the evening at the house, out by the pool, or cruising around on my e-bike, these were my favorite ones to listen to. I hope you enjoyed reading this article, and I look forward to seeing you on the next one.
