Signs You Might Be Working Just A Tad Too Hard

As mentioned recently, as a young guy on the come-up, it can be hard to justify taking time off. When you have everything to gain and practically nothing to lose, it feels like every minute is an opportunity to go harder.

However, I’ve learned that I feel happiest when I live a balanced life. As much as working passionately can play a big part in that, it’s not the only thing that brings me joy.

In this article, I’ll share a few personal indicators that you might be working just a tad too hard.

#1 You Feel Overinflated

For folks who have their identity closely tied to their work, it can be easy to over-inflate yourself.

It’s great to strive for excellence in your field, but when you’re still early on, it’s probably not healthy to mentally position yourself as more successful than you really are.

With that can come setting expectations higher than what’s reasonable, and putting more pressure on yourself than necessary.

#2 You Feel Overstimulated

As good as it is to stay consistent and work on things proactively, when it starts bleeding into your personal time is when it can feel like you’re being over-stimulated.

If you find yourself jumping out of bed in the middle of the night because you shared the wrong link and need to fix it, or pulling out your phone to edit something while waiting in line at a restaurant, it might be time to put the phone down and relax.

#3 You Feel Overly Tired

My dad always reminds me that hard work is good for you, and my grandfather has said the same.

I’d agree with that, but I’d also add that rest is important.

It’s easy to feel burned out when you’re putting in long hours, but getting good rest in between can help with that.

Final Thoughts

These are some of the things I’ve experienced recently, but I’m happy to say that taking some time off has helped me get back into a better groove. Moving forward, I hope to better manage myself so these patterns don’t repeat themselves.
