My Experience With “No Fap”
About 10 years ago I decided to stop watching pornography. Several months later I discovered that there was an entire community based around this online that is called “No Fap”.
After doing some research I came across a video of a guy stating that No Fap had all sorts of benefits, from deepening your voice, to increasing your confidence, and so on. Toward the end of the video he made a comment where he said “if you really want to succeed with this, your mindset needs to be that you are done for good”. To which my response at the time was “challenge accepted“.
This went on for about 2 years. Finally, around mid 2018 I realized that the practice of “No Fap” was starting to do more harm than good. As it turns out, refraining from “MO” as they call it isn’t great for your prostate.
This article is going to take a closer look at my experiences.
What Led Me In This Direction
Back in early 2016 I found myself starting to get into a bit of a rut. I wasn’t performing well in school, I was smoking a lot of weed at the time, and I was sometimes watching porn as many as 3 times in the same day.
Finally, by around May 2016 I decided to let it all go. I quit smoking weed, and quit the pornography as well.
At the time I really just wanted to clean my health up. I wanted to get out of the rut, and I wanted to give myself an extra boost to my overall energy and clarity.
The Benefits
As stated up top, this went on for about 2 years.
The main benefit was that it increased my libido. A lot of guys don’t give themselves much of a chance to really allow those feelings to develop because they beat them out of their body at the first opportunity.
The next benefit is that it greatly reduced that part of the brain that is always jonesing and craving. That still carries on to this day, as I never went back to doing things the way I had before. Even today if I had to do it all over again I would be fine.
The third benefit is that it makes you better at interacting with women. When you stop settling for rushed, compulsive masturbation you naturally start to look for other ways of doing things. This made me much more active when it came to talking to other single women, as it gave me a lot more incentive for doing so.
My Recommendations
Would I recommend “No Fap”? Yes, but not for that long.
In most cases the standard recommendation is about 3 weeks, but that’s only if you feel that you have a problem and need to fully reset.
Do I still masturbate? Yes, but mainly as a personal health practice.
The recommended sweet spot for male masturbation is about 2-3 times a week. Personally, in many cases that has looked more like 1 time per week. That is because research indicates that a brief abstinence period increases your testosterone.
Do I still watch pornography? No. I haven’t watched pornography in years.
Most studies conclude that pornography has a negative effect on health and sexual function, other studies show that moderate use can actually have some positive effects. Personally, I just stopped because I didn’t feel that it was necessary, and most of the things you see on there aren’t of much interest to me.
Final Thoughts
As young children, many people are taught that sex and masturbation are “bad”. In many cases this can produce behaviors that don’t correlate with the way we are built naturally as humans.
I hope this article has helped to clarify things if you are one of those people.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to seeing you on the next one.
